Fork joined Habitat for Humanity of Utah County’s Half a House Campaign

to be more actively involved with the
affordable housing organization. Local congregations were asked to donate
$800.00 in cash and/or gifts in-kind towards the total campaign goal of
$25,000. They were also encouraged to participate in interfaith volunteer
build days. The Community Presbyterian Church is the first local church
congregation to meet the $800.00 challenge. Congregation members have

RV Care-A-Vanners
travel this way to bring their annual gift of volunteering
|
-
[click photo to enlarge] August 2007 - Seventeen RV Care-A-Vanners
from all over the country passed through Orem, spending 2 weeks helping us frame a home with
the Atene family the week of August 6. To welcome these traveling
volunteers, the Habitat affiliate hosted a kickoff breakfast on
Monday, August 6. The home is located at 159 East 800 South in Orem.
-
-
The Care-A-Vanners worked
with the affiliate for two weeks. This is the second time the Care-A-Vanners have been
to Utah County. Last year, a group of Care-A-Vanners helped the local Habitat
affiliate frame homes in Orem and Santaquin.
-
-
The RV Care-A-Vanner program,
which is coordinated through Habitat International headquarters in Americus,
Georgia, matches volunteers who travel in recreation vehicles to local Habitat
affiliates in need of volunteer support. The Care-A-Vanners camp their RVs
while working shoulder to shoulder with the local Habitat staff and future
Habitat homeowners. Care-A-Vanners come from all over North America and from
all walks of life. The majority being near or at retirement age, their
construction skills range from professional to first-time builder. The
Care-A-Vanners, who typically stay for two weeks, pay their own expenses to
travel to Habitat building projects. Drawing from a pool of more than 6,000
volunteers, this year teams RV Care-A-Vanners are participating in greater
than 175 building projects from Canada to Florida and California to Maine.

Westminster Presbyterians Build Again |
-
-
June 2007 -
We are pleased to note the return of the enthusiastic youth group from
the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fruit Heights, UT. Once again
they traveled from northern Utah to help us from June 11 - 13.
They helped us put the finishing touches on the Tchako home in Provo, the fourth home
in our TyRay subdivision. This is the same subdivision where they
worked on the Ellison home last June, the first home in that project.

titled “CLUTTER-FREE FOREVER: The Streamlined Advantage,” was taught by
Alice Fulton-Osborne and Patty Liston. They showed participants how to
permanently eliminate clutter and overload from the home and workplace.

- New to Habitat is this year's Half A Home Campaign. Funding an
entire build in this growing community is daunting, so Habitat is teaming up
with area churches to receive matching grants from the Open Door Challenge
Grant V. For each church, group of churches or church-related
organization that raises $25,000, a challenge grant will match it, and
that total will build 1/2 of a local home. The donations must be
received by December 31, 2007 in order to receive the matching grant.
The campaign began with a kickoff bluegrass concert presented by Miles
to Go on February 28.
